All,
Some questions have arisen about if timecards are needed when an automatic timing system is used. Our rule book states that all meets will be run with timecards. With the advent of electronic timing and in an effort to improve the way swim meets are run the executive board will allow the following exception to the time card rule:
Please pass this information to all officials and referee's:
The following exception to the VBSL rule book has been approved by the executive board:
Any meet run with an electronic timing system may use lane sheets instead time cards for the 2007 season. This will be for this season only as a trial for possible rule changes for next year. The following procedures will be strictly adhered to:
Manual times for swimmers must be recorded on the sheet.
No swims (NS) must be noted on the sheets by the timers.
DQ slips must be retained, and if a swimmer is DQ'd the time
scorer(s) must note the DQ on the lane sheet.
Lane sheets should be printed as accurately as possible (scratches ect included).
All DQ slips, lane sheets, timing system print outs, and any electronic files must be retained and be presented for use during the divisional seeding meeting. They may also be used for research involving permanent rule changes.
Timers will verify relay names and swimmer names and make any annotations on the lane sheet. Time scorers and meet manager operators will note those changes make appropriate entries into TM.
Any exceptions or modifications to the above must be approved by the executive board.
I will be out of town at another meet starting tonight. You can reach me via cell phone at 757-438-6424 if you have any questions or problems.
Respectfully,
John Squires
VBSL President
