Dolphin Wireless Stopwatch Timing System
All,
CTS has opened a SE area office and I got a call from their rep today about this new system. Apparently they wanted it to come out sooner, but the full testing of it took longer than expected. The price for a 6 lane - 3 watch/lane system will be about $3500. Group purchase discounts may be available. The main office will be visitng the SE office in Jan (exact dates TBD) and they are looking at doing a road show demonstration possibly for the league. I told the rep I would find a location and he will give me a couple of weeks advance notice.
From his description, it is designed to work specifically with MM. There is a sensor on the starting system that starts the clock and then each of the wireless stopwatch type devices transmit the times directly to MM when the timers hit the button at the end of a race. It is similar in design to the system that another company tried unsuccessfully to demonstrate at Porpoise Divisionals last year (a Beta test system), but this one has been fully tested and is ready for marketing. The current system they have does not interface with a scoreboard, but that is an improvement they are already starting to work on. I will send additional information when I hear back from the company rep.
Take care & Happy Holidays/Kevin (CPAC Team Rep)

Colorado Time Systems is pleased to introduce Dolphin, a breakthrough wireless timing system. The patent-pending Dolphin system is a versatile and precise wireless timing system available for 6 to 10 lanes with up to three watches per lane. Easy to use, Dolphin interfaces flawlessly with Hy-Tek Meet Manager.

            The Dolphin system includes

a.. Handheld Wireless Stopwatches for each lane (the system supports up to three lane timers per lane and up to 10 lanes).
              b.. Starter unit.
c.. Base unit (USB connection for accessibility to Hy-Tek Meet Manager on a laptop).
d.. Carrying case, lanyards and a spare watch.
Dolphin allows meet managers to concentrate on the meet, not data entry.

Fills a Gap in the Industry
"In the course of our continuing industry research, CTS found that there was a gap in the industry for a product like Dolphin," said Anita Sayed, CTS President and CEO. "From smaller clubs relying on stopwatches for timing, to larger venues using stopwatches for backup times and training, we found that wireless watches could make running a meet easier and more accurate, and most of all more efficient."

            More Efficient, Shorter Meets
The wireless transmission of times provides great benefits to meet managers:

a.. immediate, easy access to the information in Hy-Tek
b.. reduces the number of volunteers needed to run an efficient meet - no need for runners or officials to write times
c.. eliminates errors in data entry
d.. speeds up the meet - no need to wait for officials to write times, give them to runners, have runners take them to a data entry person who types them into meet management software.
Steve Crocker, an architect with Counsilman-Hunsaker, said, "I have three kids that swim on a summer league team, and that is where I see a real benefit of this system. Official results could be posted and ribbons printed in a fraction of the time."

In addition to making meets easier to run, Bob Clauson of CTS sees another great advantage to Dolphin in "getting rid of clerical errors. There's no human in the middle. It saves manually writing times, and then having someone type those times into the meet management software."

            Three modes of operation
Three modes of operation allow users to choose an electronic start system, synchronized manual start or wireless manual start/stop. The wireless manual start/stop is compliant with swimming ruling bodies' (FINA, NCAA, USS, NFHS, YMCA) requirements for back-up timing. Times are transmitted wirelessly and saved for immediate meet manager access in Hy-Tek.

Industry experts who have previewed the product see a real benefit in not having to learn new software. Hy-Tek is the industry leader in meet management for competitive swimming and most meet managers already know it well.

Since the Dolphin system allows all watches to be started simultaneously by one person, it minimizes discrepancies and variances. For club teams without a large budget for equipment, the Dolphin system is a perfect step up from traditional stopwatches.

This dynamic system is the solution for all size meets - truly a first choice option for any aquatic organization.

Dolphin makes meet management efficient, and dependable accuracy easy to achieve - no matter how large or small the venue.
